(one year difference on death date) !DEA-BUR: DEA-3 p.1 !PIC: picture file Thursday, June 3, 1897 OBITUARY OF ANDERSON TEGART It was our sorrowful duty last Wednesday, to chronicle the death of a well-known resident of Schomberg, in the person of Mr. Anderson Tegart. The deceased was born at Tottenham sixty-nine years ago, and when quite young he started a harness shop in Schomberg. When he succeeded in working up a successful business here he married Miss Louisa Fletcher of North Gwillimbury and resided in this village ever since. In 1879 he buried his beloved partner who departed this life after a lingering illness. Eleven children blessed their union, the two oldest - William and Edward - died at the ages of 17 and 10 respectively [actually William & Edmond at 10 & 17]. The remainder of the family reside as follows: Mrs. Matt Campbell, Elmgrove; Mr. George Tegart, Tottenham; Mr. Jas. Tegart, Hartney, Man.; Mrs. Jas. Walton, Elmvale; Mr. Alfred Tegart, Tottenham; Mr. Harry Tegart, Boston, Mass.; Dr. A.H.F. Tegart, Lloydtown; Mr. Harvey and Miss Ida Tegart, Schomberg. In the year 1881 Mr. Tegart married Miss C. Sibbald of Streetsville, who is left a widow with two sons, Master Wilfred and Alvin. By Mr. Tegart's decease the Methodist Church loses one of it's most faithful and valued members. He was class leader for a number of years and superintendent of the Sunday-school for eleven years, and was a member of the Quarterly Official Board. He was a member of the Royal Templars of Temperance, in which society he held a $2000 policy. For about twenty years Mr. Tegart has sat at the bench as Justice of the Peace. The remains were conveyed to the church at 2 pm on Saturday, when Rev. R. Toye preached the funeral sermon and paid a glowing tribute to the life of deceased, urging upon his hearers the necessity of being prepared to meet their God. Rev. G.W. Robinson of Lloydtown assisted in the service which was attended by the teachers and scholars of the Sunday School in a body and by a large number of relatives, friends and acquaintances of deceased. The remains were interred in the Methodist Cemetery, Tottenham, and the funeral cortege was a very long one. The pallbearers were his five sons - George, Harry, Alfred, Dr. A.H.F., and Harvey - and a nephew, Mr. Jas. Tegart of Tottenham. Among those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tegart and daughter, Boston, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sibbald, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Sibbald and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gardiner, Meadowvale; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sibbald, and Miss Mary Sibbald, Streetsville; Mr. and Mrs. B. Grennan, Orilia; and Mr. And Mrs. Thos. Elliott, Toronto. |
