Thomas Dowding was born in England. He was a farmer and occupied 50 acres, part of lot 7, conc 2, South of Egremont Rd. His first wife and a daughter died coming to Canda. One son, Thomas Jr. survived the journey. Thomas Sr. then married Martha Randall and they had eight children.
He was born 1794 in England, and died Unknown in Adelaide Twp. Interred St. Anne's Anglican, Adelaide..
The following is extracted from a publication by Adelaide twp
historians... "The First Year Minutes of the Municipal Council of the Township
of Adelaide, Middlesex County, Ontario, 1850". There is a section which gives a
brief profile of people mentioned in the minutes.Thomas Dowding Sr.
Pathmaster: Thomas Dowding Sr., age 54, born in England. He was a farmer and
occupied 50 acres, being part of lot 7, concession 2, south. His first wife and
a daughter died coming to Canada. One son, Thomas Jr., survived the journey.
Thomas Sr. then married Martha Randall and they had eight children; Eliza Sarah
Ann, William, James, George, Elizabeth, Harriet and Mary.Within the minutes of the January 21, 1850 meeting:
Moved by Mr. Dell, seconded by Mr. Hoare that John Armstrong be appointed
Pathmaster for division No. 1, Thomas Dowding for division No. 2, William
Randall Sr. for division No. 3, Adoram Frank for division No. 4, and George
Buttery for division No. 5 on the Second and Third Concessions South of the
Egremont Road.
